Hanna Somatic Education® (HSE) is the procedure for teaching voluntary conscious control of the neuromuscular system to persons suffering muscular disorders of an involuntary, unconscious nature. Students will learn the full range of techniques practiced by Dr. Hanna, as described in the books Somatics and The Body of Life.
These practitioners will represent a major new presence in the field of health care. Hanna Somatic Education® will, during the twenty-first century assume a permanent place in the health care field — as essential to the maintenance of human health as are the traditional branches of medicine.
Students who have, by examination, successfully demonstrated their knowledge and clinical skills will be certified as practitioners of Hanna Somatic Education®.
Practitioner Training and Credentials
- Authorized Training Programs
- All training programs for Hanna Somatic Education® Practitioners are authorized by the renowned Novato Institute for Somatic Research and Training in Novato, CA. All certified practitioners of HSE are certified by the Novato Institute. Authorized training programs are taught by Novato Institute licensed trainers.
- Licensed Trainers
- Only certified Hanna Somatic Education® practitioners who are specifically licensed to do so may serve as trainers who may teach others to become Hanna Somatic Education® practitioners.
- Certified Practitioners
- The only way to become a Hanna Somatic Educator is by successful completion of an authorized training program and associated certification examinations. There is no other way to legitimately practice Hanna Somatic Education®, including conducting hands-on clinical sessions,
described in our introduction to Hanna Somatic Education® and the official HSE Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics. Certified Hanna Somatic Educators are listed on the AHSE's Certified Practitioner List.
